Superior
fiberglass columns are shaped as they were in Ancient Greece,
stretching upward from a strong base to a graceful taper at the
smooth top. Our fiberglass columns whether round, fluted,
or
square are specially constructed for all types of decorative and
load-bearing installations and have architecturally correct
proportions and projections. They are perfect for indoor and
outdoor applications and ideal for both residential and commercial
use.
Superior
Fiberglass Columns are perfect for matching or replacing the columns
found in older structures. The classic styling and ability to paint the
columns to accurately reflect the décor and time period make them the
only choice for many
restorations and renovations.
Durability – fiberglass columns will not rot, split, or warp - and
termites hate them.
Strength – provides an elegant load bearing structural element for a
variety of applications.
Easy Assembly and Installation - simply cut the column to size and
follow the simple instructions included.
Finish – once painted with a good quality latex paint, fiberglass
columns will not deteriorate or succumb to severe weathering.
Round fiberglass columns
are available in either fluted or
smooth designs, with five elegant column cap styles to emphasize the
graceful tapered design. Manufactured from high density, highly advanced
fiberglass polymers they are extremely impact resistant, and when
combined with a quality latex paint in outdoor installations, virtually
maintenance-free.

STEP 1:
Slide
standard cap over column neck until it rests against column
shoulder bead. |
|
|
|
STEP 1:
Trim off
top of column neck to shoulder bead with an abrasive saw.
Trim
evenly around column circumference. |
|
 |
 |
|
STEP 2:
The column
neck should protrude 1/16" above the cap. Trim evenly with an
abrasive saw (if required). |
|
|
|
STEP 2:
Measure
required length or opening where column is to be used.
Column
should be slightly longer for a snug fit. |

|
STEP 3:
Apply
construction adhesive around lower round surface of cap, then
position cap onto column. |
|
| |
 |
|
STEP 4:
Trim the
bottom of the column to achieve the desired overall height.
Be certain
the saw-cut (top & bottom) is even so load is evenly distributed
around column circumference.
If
necessary use a rasp to even it out. |
|
|
|
STEP 4:
Measure
overall required length measuring from top of cap to bottom end
of column only.
Be certain
the saw-cut (top & bottom) is even so load is evenly distributed
around column circumference. |
|
| |
 |
|
STEP 5:
Position
cap and base onto column and temporarily stand column in
position, then plumb with a level.
With a
pencil, mark the exact mounting position around cap and base.

Position
base on column, then temporarily stand column in position and
plumb with level.
With cap
and base in proper position, mark exact mounting location with a
pencil. |

STEP 6:
Next, lay
column down and apply construction adhesive to top of column and
on bottom trimmed surface of column.

Installation Note: (For Round
Columns with Standard Caps, all Column Bases and Square Columns)
The use of L-shaped brackets at top and bottom of column is
another method of fastening a column to the structure. The
L-shaped brackets will be covered by the cap or base. CHECK

Smooth fiberglass square
columns are classic in
every sense of the word. High-density advanced fiberglass polymers make
the column extremely impact resistance. Once painted with a high-quality
latex paint, the column is virtually impervious to severe long-term
weathering.

Square Column Installation
Easy To Assemble and Install Requires No
Special Tools.
(Illustrated Step-By-Step Instructions Packaged With Each Column)
| |
 |
|
STEP 1:
Measure
the required length or opening where the column is to be
used. Column should be trimmed slightly longer for a snug fit.
NOTE:
Generally the bottom section of the column is sawed off to fit
the opening. Trim evenly so the weight is evenly distributed
around the column. However, depending upon your preference,
maximum of 1-3/4" can be trimmed off the top, if desired.
|
|
 |
 |
|
STEP 2:
Position
cap and base onto column and temporarily stand column in
position, then plumb with a level. With a pencil, mark the exact
mounting position around the top neck of the column and the
base. |
|
| |
 |
|
STEP 3:
Next, lay
column down and apply construction adhesive to top and bottom
load bearing surfaces of column. See "Installation Note" below.
|
|
| |
 |
|
STEP 4:
Install
cap and base and set column in place, then remove jacks or
props. |
|
| |
 |
|
STEP 5:
With cap
temporarily pushed up, draw a pencil line around bottom surface
of cap. Allow cap to slide down, then apply construction
adhesive to top of cap, (or upper mounting surface), and to
upper neck of column. Position the cap up and press it firmly
in place. |
|
| |
 |
|
STEP 6:
Draw a
pencil line around the column at top of base, then slide base up
and apply construction adhesive around column below the pencil
line. Slide base down to its normal floor position.
|
|
| |
 |
|
STEP 7:
Caulk with
a quality latex paintable caulk between base and column and cap
and column. |
|
| |
 |
|
STEP 8:
Clean
column surface with a damp cloth, then apply a high quality
latex exterior paint. A primer is not required, but can be
used. |
|
