Quick Start Guide

The Railing System is fast and simple. Figuring materials for any job can be broken down to a few simple steps. Use this quick start guide as a reference and find more detailed information on the pages that follow.

STEP 1:  Choose your post

The Railing system allows you to choose from several options for a newel post. Choose the option that best suits your installation needs.
*Note: For load bearing, full height posts, you should use a standard 4x4 or 6x6 wood post and the appropriate  sleeve listed in the next section. For turned support posts and newels, see post section at bottom of page.

Option 1: Structural Post - Flush Mount

For residential applications (36" rail height with a 2" bottom space.)
 Wood framed application:
 ·  Flush mount over any decking surface.
 ·  Fasten using lag screws through decking and into framework of deck below (double joist or block as necessary.)

Masonry application:
 ·  Flush mount to most standard masonry materials.
 ·  Fasten using wedge anchors.

Note: Vinyl post sleeve sold separately.
**Fasteners not included in post assembly.

 

Option 2: Structural Post -
Thru Mount
 For residential and commercial applications (36" or 42" rail height with 2" bottom space.)

Wood framed application:
 ·     Thru or fascia mount to any deck frame.
·  Fasten to deck frame using carriage bolts.

Masonry application:
·   Core mount to most standard masonry materials.
·  Core drill and set post using hydraulic grout.  Part # EASP36T* (36" rail height with a 2" bottom space).
 Part # EASP42T* (42" rail height with a 2 bottom space).

Option 3: Standard Wood Post

New construction:
·   Frame post in place during construction (thru or fascia mount.)
·   Sleeve posts as necessary (see next section "choose a post sleeve.")

Remodel/Retrofit:
·   Remove existing railings from wood posts.
·   Replace any posts that are not structurally sound.
·   Sleeve posts as neces­sary (see next section "choose a post sleeve.")

This is a Non­ Item Purchase 4x4 or 6x6 wood posts and appropriate fasteners separately.

STEP 2:  Choose a post sleeve

post sleeves come in two sizes and three lengths.

*Note: For load bearing full height posts, you should use a standard 4x4 or 6x6 wood post and the appropriate  sleeve listed in this section, or choose a turned post at the bottom of the page.

Sleeve A:  4"x 4"sleeve  Available lengths: 38,54" 54"and 108"
Application:
· Slides over  Structural post assembly, standard 4x4 wood newel post, or full height, load bearing 4x4 wood post.
· For use in new construction or retro-fit of existing 4x4 newel post.

 post sleeves come in two sizes and three lengths.

Application:
·  Slides over standard *6x6 wood newel post, or full height, load bearing *6x6 wood post.
·     For use in new construction or retro-fit of existing 6x6 newel post.

* Note: I.D. of 6'/ x 6'/= sleeve is 6" x 6': Posts may need to be packed out to this dimension for sleeve to fit properly.

STEP 3:  Choose your level railing sections
 Residential and Commercial kits are available for level railing.

All railing kits include:
 ·  Top vinyl extrusion with interior aluminum stiffener
 ·  Bottom vinyl extrusion with interior aluminum stiffener

 ·  Mounting brackets with integral locking screw cover caps
 ·  Stainless steel mounting screws
Select the kit length based on the opening size. Trim kits to size on the job.
 Note: Use support foot "Part #EASF4"for level railing that spans greater than 8 feet in length.

STEP 4:  Choose your stair railing sections

Residential and Commercial kits are available for stair railing. Each  stair railing kit I contains all of the components and hardware you need to install your railing section.

All railing kits include:
·   Top vinyl extrusion with interior aluminum stiffener
·   Bottom vinyl extrusion with interior aluminum stiffener
·   Balusters
·   Mounting brackets with integral locking screw cover caps
·   Stainless steel mounting screws
Select the style and kit length based on the opening size. Select the kit angle range based upon the angle (rise and run) of your stairs. Trim kits to size on the job. For help determining the proper kit, see our stair ordering guide #MLL 134.

STEP 5:  Choose a post cap
Several cap styles are available to put the finishing touch on your posts. Use standard PVC cement to fasten caps to sleeve material.

Level Mounting Bracket Kit.

Use this kit when cutting one level railing kit into two sections.  • Mount level railing to post or building surface. • Fasten using stainless steel screws (included). • Screw hole cover

45°Angle Bracket Kit.

Use this kit to mount one level railing end on a 45° angle.
• Mount level railing on a 45° angle to post or building corner.  • Fasten using stainless steel screws (included).

Universal Trim Collar
Fits 4" to 6'h" Posts!

Our NEW 4-piece Universal Ratchet LockTM trim collar will accommodate 4", 5", or 6'/2" posts, and can be installed after installation of post to provide additional style. No adhesive is needed!
